Arshavin’s Barcelona Dreams Collapse

By FollowEverton • Jul 7th, 2008 • Category: Gossip and Rumours

Zenit and Barcelona have ended negotiations over the signing of Andrei Arshavin.

Barcelona have refused to go over their £12m valuation for Russian playmaker Arshavin, and now Zenit have ended negotiations with the Spanish club. Ashavin’s preferred choice was Barcelona, the club he has supported all his life, and now the 27 year old will be forced to look elsewhere. Zenit have also confirmed no other offers had been made, but David Moyes is still apparently interested.

Are the Everton board trying to raise club record funds to make a bid for Arshavin? If Zenit hold out for £20m - we’ve certainly got no chance, even if we did have any chance of signing him in the first place….

  1. Thanks for keeping us informed of this situation. Surely this is good news in the race to sign him - especially because Zenit have confirmed he WILL leave this summer and that he will not play for the club . I really really hope we sign him, because this will really put us on the map and show our ambition to all these clubs (Newcaslte! ) another thing is imagine the RS faces…….

  2. I posted this in a forum thread earlier but here are some of my thoughts on midfield - if there is a midfield.

We need at least three CM to replace Carsley, Fernandes and Gravesen. Even with them we were very short so four wouldn’t be over exaggerating.

I think this is very realistic.

Lorik Cana? If we’re still interested then this guy is the one for me. He’s tough tackling midfielder - watch him - you want him.

Fernandes - loan? I think this will happen towards the end of the window. He ads some height, and has potential (remember he’s 22 not 17 anymore) to be a top, top player.

Moutiniho - ?. Sorry if I’ve mis-spelt his name, but we need a creative midfielder - this one I think is only 20, is a full Portugal international and played in the Euro’s in the first team, starting the big games. He’s a top, class act, (David Poo Pleat agreeds Laughing) sign this one.

There is all three - all different types and are exactly what the club needs.

  3. If we sell AJ for £10m-£12m I dont see why we cant offer around £20m for this guy. A class playmaker.

  4. Good point Will, sort of comment the mailbag is there for.
